Building Strong Foundations: Why Sec 1 Maths Matters More Than You Think

At Thinking Pathways, we often say that Secondary One Mathematics is more than just a subject—it's a launchpad. The concepts introduced in Sec 1 form the bedrock of everything that follows in Sec 3 and 4, especially when students begin tackling topics like Algebraic Manipulation, Trigonometry, and Additional Mathematics. Without a firm grasp of the basics, students may find themselves overwhelmed later on, not because they lack ability, but because they missed the scaffolding.

That’s why our upcoming Sec 1 Maths Trial Classes are designed with intention and care. Each session covers key concepts taught in the first month of Secondary One, delivered in small groups of no more than four students. This allows for personalized attention, targeted support, and a nurturing space to ask questions and build confidence.

👩‍🏫 Led by experienced school teachers like Teacher Pearl, who brings both academic excellence and a heart for teaching, our classes are more than just tuition—they’re a journey into the beauty and logic of mathematics. With a degree in Mathematics from NUS and a PGDE from NIE, Teacher Pearl specializes in helping students who struggle with foundational concepts. Her approachable style and clear explanations have helped many students rediscover joy in learning.

🧠 Why does this matter? Because the leap from Sec 2 to Sec 3 is steep. Students are expected to manipulate algebraic expressions fluently, understand geometric proofs, and apply mathematical reasoning with precision. These skills don’t magically appear—they’re cultivated from the very first lessons in Sec 1.

Here’s what we cover in our trial classes:

• Algebraic identities like ((a + b)^2)

• Pythagorean relationships such as (b = \sqrt{a^2 + c^2})

• Foundational arithmetic and number sense

Each session is just $65, held at our cozy centre in Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, right next to Beauty World MRT. Students may attend one or both sessions:
